For Hailsham based charity Computers for Charities, Christmas has arrived early with the its first delivery of Christmas shoeboxes for the charities ongoing Christmas appeal to aid the elderly.
Simon Rooksby chairman and founder of Computers for Charities says; its fantastic to get such responses as in this case, where around 40 boxes have been prepared and come down from an area called Lowhill in Wolverhampton.
Lowhill is regarded as one of the poorest areas in the city, many of those preparing the gifts would be classified as low income but there generosity is amazing as is their desire to help the less fortunate.
In 2009 shoeboxes were distributed as far as remote islands off Papua New Guinea, Zimbabwe, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Albania and across the UK.
Responses from recipients have been touching and for many it represents the highlight of there year. At this stage we remain unsure what the response for 2010 is likely to be, but needless to say would welcome more support from individuals, workplaces, clubs, etc in preparing for new locations this year.
Simon will be meeting new organisations in preparation for there December deliveries in early October, when he departs from Hailsham by motorbike to visit hospitals and projects in Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Kosovo and Albania covering thousands of miles in days rather than weeks.
