Christmas Shoebox appeal 2009
CfC Christmas Shoebox appeal for the elderly!
What happened to the dream? Eugene aged 70 years old survives by attending the soup kitchen, home is a shared shack built on the town's refuse tip from salvaged materials, and there is no sanitation, electricity or plumbed water. Then there is the temperature extremes -23c in winter and very hot, dusty with the over powering smell of decay in the summer provides a snapshot of some of the vulnerable and disadvantaged elderly folk we are seeking to assist.
Did you know?
The elderly have not always been old
They were young
Held dreams and hopes
Have lived a life
Experienced pain and suffering
Seen change
Worked hard
Faced hardship
Known love
But above all remain an untapped resource
Possessing untold wisdom and experience
In 2008 over 13,000 miles were covered collecting and distributing shoeboxes and resources to aid elderly people in Zimbabwe, Albania, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Serbia.
2009 heralds the fifth year of this truly unique appeal, requiring even more support for 2009 as we seek to provide increased aid to more areas of need. Support has proved phenomenal with Residential homes, schools, offices, church groups amazing us by such generosity and desire to provide encouragement to some of the forgotten this Christmas with shoeboxes, warm clothing, medical supplies, bedding and food stuffs.
